Irving Penn went to school at Abraham Lincoln High school, this is where he learned about graphic design. He was Russian and attended the university of Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art. He was born into a Jewish family and was jewish for his whole entire life.Penn was happily married from 1950 to 1992 when his wife Lisa Fonssagrives died. Some people say this greatly influenced his work in during his life. Penn's photography didn't rly compare to anyone else. He was a pioneer of photography. Penn was one of the first people to pose subjects against a simple grey or white backdrop and he effectively used its simplicity to its full extent. Penn's photographs whilst being simple had great attention to detail. He could make someone or something flaws look beautiful and that is very challenging to do. While Penn was best known for his fashion photography he also recorded important events around the world to spread awareness. heres a quote from Penn really digging deep into his ideals. "Sensitive people faced with the prospect of a camera portrait put on a face they think is one they would like to show the world. ...Very often what lies behind the facade is rare and more wonderful than the subject knows or dares to believe." —Irving Penn, 1975 Irving Penn was always an inspirer. His photographs made you stop and think and you could always tell if it was his photographs. I look up to Irving because of his unique style and immense creativity. He perfected his portrait style and could make a piece of trash a work of art. It was simply stunning. Penn had a few major accomplishments including over 25 exhibitions. Also in 1987 he won the The Cultural Award from the German Society for Photography. But for most of Penn's career he worked at Vogue magazine
Though my images are supposed to be replications of his and i thought they were going to be easy they were astonishingly challenging especially getting the correct lighting according to the other photo. Also irving is a master of his backgrounds making the perfect contrast with his objects which was also hard to replicate.
Like Penn's photos mine also follow the rules of photography including clarity rule of thirds. etc... In my photos though unlike pens i wanted there to be a major contrast. In the first photo i was cracking an egg on the counter and making a mess when my mom walked in the room and started yelling at me but after an explAnation she was willing to help me. The second photo was challenging because i had to find a wall that didn't have anything on it. But after a long search i found the perfect spot. The third and final photo was challenging because i didn't know what to use to make the plate messy but i ended up using balsamic vinegar Which turned out almost perfectly.
